Châteauguay, Wednesday, June 16, 202,
Eric Allard and his team are currently working on a commercial development plan for the City of Châteauguay. The mayoral candidate is preparing to take action as soon as he takes office by putting forward proposals from merchants, industrialists and economic experts. Citizens are also being asked to vote on the type of economic development they would like to see in their city, which is an ongoing process.
"Municipalities can stimulate economic life in a number of ways. In some cases, changing regulations can be very effective. We see that with the Regional Center right now. The owner is making significant investments there. But now we need to do more to reach our full potential," says Eric Allard.
What about the Faubourg Châteauguay?
The change of zoning or use could prove to be very judicious for certain lots, which despite the current strong demand, are slow to develop. "We need to put on the table all the options that are available to us. In the case of Faubourg Châteauguay, owned by the Westcliff company, quite frankly, we will stop believing their promises. We were promised a hotel, stores, restaurants and so many projects. Nothing is coming to fruition and it is high time the City took control of the development of this very valuable commercial area. There are tools that a city can use, it is necessary to review our urban plan and use the development tools that are available to us afterwards. "adds the mayoral candidate.
Eric Allard and his team have the firm intention of setting up a work team composed of local merchants, elected officials and professionals competent in land use planning.
"The role of merchants is to attract customers to their establishments. The City's role is to attract people and business to the streets and shopping centers. It's a team effort! To revitalize certain commercial sectors before it's too late, we must start now," said Councillor candidate Sylvie Castonguay.
So far, several means have been raised by merchants and citizens to promote local commercial development. Among others, animation activities such as a large-scale festival, support for the improvement of buildings and their visual aspect, beautify commercial arteries and highlight the heritage of Chateauguay.Eric Allard can be reached by e-mail at AllianceChateauguay@hotmail.com or by our Facebook page.
