“We’re going to take the bull by the horns and seriously take control of the property tax rate”
- Eric Allard, Mayoral Candidate

Châteauguay, September 29, 2021 – Mayoral candidate Eric Allard affirms that the average property tax bill in Châteauguay is among the highest in Quebec and we must quickly take action to limit all future increases. Having taken a stand on using bylaws to limit the municipality’s debt, he is doing the same with property tax rates which he wants to control by means of a bylaw that he will submit to city council for ratification if elected mayor.

“Châteauguay residents’ and businesses’ tax bills have always been among the highest. We are well aware of that, as are the citizens with whom we meet. We are committed to taking the bull by the horns and implementing bylaws so that tax rate increases cannot exceed cost of living adjustments,” asserted Eric Allard. “We have to think about the citizens whose financial stability is being undercut each time we increase taxes. I’m thinking in particular about retirees and workers on fixed incomes that don’t increase much or at all on an annual basis.”

The posture adopted by the Équipe Eric Allard Team is music to the ears of City Councillor Eric Corbeil, who is running for a second mandate in district 3 - de Robutel. “Our ultimate goal is to offer citizens the best services at the best possible price. Given all of the infrastructure projects that city has to undertake for our roads, parks and drinking water, we are going to have to be very careful. Meticulous even. I am confident that Eric Allard and our team will be up to the task of this crucial challenge for our city,” Eric Corbeil stated.

City property taxes have barely increased over the past four years, remaining under the threshold of 1% annually. Eric Allard added, however, that the Régie de Loisirs Beau-Château, which operates the outdoor pool in Beauharnois and the Sportplex, in addition to waste material collections have caused tax bills to jump by over $100 each year. “We will regain control over the Régie de Loisirs, a burdensome inheritance we owe to former Mayor Simon. There is a governance issue that we will resolve which will contribute to our continued efforts towards the City of Châteauguay’s financial health,” concluded Eric Allard.
